Another reason to finish that doctorate, ladies:

In a recent study, Statistics Canada found that according to data in the 2001 Census, a female doctorate holder earned 77 cents for every dollar a male doctorate holder earned. Women earn 71 cents for every dollar earned by men in the general workforce. (Via Dale Kirby)
hmmm…I am really curious of the situation in Sweden, where supposedly men and women maintain a natural and complete balance of rights within marriage. Does this balance extend elsewhere?
Crazy to imagine positive changes in earnings given the possibility of a female head-of-state. The thought actually makes me picture Hillary, machete in one hand, degree in the other, thrashing her way up some ape-controlled jungle mountain.
I was with a group of fellow grad students last fall and someone shared a set of stats (or article?) showing that Canadian women with a Master’s earned comparable with a man with a high school diploma. I wish I could remember what we were looking at but I do remember it motivated me to keep on studying.
