and came across this letter, reproduced at Digital History, from one Jourdan Anderson to his former master on the latter asking him to come back and work on the plantation. It wins the prize for the best postscript: “P.S. — Say howdy to George Carter, and thank him for taking the pistol from you when you were shooting at me.” (Via Feminist Law Professors).
