Of interest:

The Arts Council of England is commemorating the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act by inviting poems on the theme of enslavement. Helen Dunmore’s “I owned a woman once” strikes me as particularly powerful.

The New York City Council is debating the finer points of the word “bitch.” I might have to stop wearing my “You say I’m a bitch like it’s a bad thing” button when I’m down there. And I wonder if N.Y. readers of Bitch Ph.D will have to keep their laptops in brown paper bags when they read her?
